Outlook Analysis for 2014 Laser Industry

Laser is a new science developed in 60s of twenties century. It is a coherent light with the advantages of high brightness, good directivity and good monochromaticity.
Laser has been applied into material processing and brought a fundamental change in the manufacturing field. Many problems that could not be solved by many conventional methods had been disposed. In aerospace industry, the success of aluminium alloy being welded by laser was considered as a technological revolution in aircraft manufacturing. The use of laser processing technology in automobile industry has realized a large change for cars from design to manufacture. With structures optimized, weight reduced and performance improved, as the result, the fuel consumption can be reduced. Laser machining and laser micro processing not only promotes the development of microelectronic industry, but also provides conditions for micro machinery manufacturing. In addition, for most traditional processing methods, the force is transferred, so the processing speed is limited. But in laser processing, there is more light transmission, inertia is small, flexibility is large and laser energy density is high, so the processing speed can be very fast.
Laser processing has been hailed as “Common Processing Method for Future Manufacturing System”. In a word, the rapid development of laser processing technology in the world is causing a new industrial revolution, as the result, the material processing industry will be brought into the optical processing times from the current electroprocessing era.
In 2012, in the global economic slump, the uncertainty and fear experienced by laser manufacturer in the “Economic Aftershocks” will still exist in the future years in the aftermath of the Great Recession. However, if we see from the long-term sales expectations, in many fields that almost have not been affected by regional or global economic recession, laser is playing an important role to economic growth as a mature technology and showing a rising trend. Although the global debt crisis is expected to limit some of the equipment spending capital in 2013, laser is hopeful to show itself by the advantages of “can realize manufacturing automation, improve efficiency, reduce energy consumption and make the enterprise more competitive in the economic crisis”. Semiconductor manufacturing industry is developing rapidly and the “Green” technologies undoubtedly have a bright future. New laser processes and technologies are in need to obtain higher production quality, finished products rate and output. In addition to the continuous development of the laser system, the new processing technologies and applications, improvement of beam propagation and optical system, new studies for the interaction between the laser beam and the material are all necessary for keeping the “Green” technologies innovation continue to go ahead. What kind of progress will be obtained by laser technology in the semiconductor industry in 2013?
